SHERIDAN, WYOMING – October 30, 2025 – CONICA AG will introduce “CONICA Made with Nike Grind” at FSB Cologne 2025 (Hall 10.2 | F051), adding recycled-shoe rubber to its polyurethane sports flooring systems. The move targets municipalities, architects, and installers seeking circular-economy materials that maintain professional performance while reducing waste across athletics tracks, multi-use courts, playgrounds, and tennis surfaces.

What’s new: recycled Nike Grind integrated into CONIPUR systems

Launched as a portfolio initiative, “CONICA Made with Nike Grind” brings end-of-life shoe rubber into two systems starting February 2025. CONIPUR EPDM features a single-layer mix with at least 25% Nike Grind rubber. CONIPUR 2S integrates 25% Nike Grind rubber in the top layer to preserve surface feel and play characteristics. CONICA plans to expand use of Nike Grind to additional layers over time, aligning product development with circular design goals.

Technical value: performance surfaces with circular content

Specifiers weighing recycled inputs often worry about variability and longevity. CONICA’s approach keeps the polyurethane system architecture intact—binder chemistry, EPDM options, and top-layer engineering—while substituting a defined share of Nike Grind rubber. This aims to preserve traction, energy return, and abrasion resistance, while stabilizing installation workflow for certified contractors. For operators, the expected benefits include predictable maintenance cycles and consistent surface quality throughout the warranty period.

Market context: sustainability mandates are reshaping sports flooring

Public buyers in Europe and beyond increasingly use sustainability criteria in tenders, including recycled content, documented sourcing, and end-of-life planning. Programs like Nike Grind—repurposing rubber, foam, fiber, and leather from retired footwear—support these requirements and help venues communicate measurable environmental impact. Against a competitive field of polyurethane systems and EPDM blends, the ability to specify verified recycled content without compromising performance is emerging as a key differentiator for sustainable sports flooring.

Stakeholder view: addressing installer and owner priorities

Thorsten Pretz, Head of Product Management at CONICA, shares: “Our partnership with Nike Grind sets a new benchmark in sustainable sports flooring. With precision-engineered products made from recycled materials, we provide installers, architects, and municipalities with solutions that are easy to handle, consistently reliable, and unique in look and feel, all while aligning with the industry’s sustainability goals. This is a meaningful step forward for both the industry and the planet.”

Implications for specifiers, contractors, and municipalities

Beyond marketing claims, procurement teams will focus on documentation and total cost of ownership. CONICA’s “Made with Nike Grind” strategy is positioned to support:

  • Tender compliance: recycled-content declarations and technical data sheets for audits.
  • Installation continuity: familiar CONIPUR system design minimizes retraining and site risk.
  • Lifecycle impact: durable surfaces with recycled inputs help meet ESG targets and public reporting.
  • Portfolio breadth: athletics tracks, halls, playgrounds, and tennis courts share a common chemistry stack, simplifying spares and maintenance.
