SHERIDAN, WYOMING – November 15, 2024 - The International Trade Fair for Retail Promotions and Imports (IAW) is set to mark a significant milestone as it celebrates two decades of retail innovation and growth. From its humble beginnings in Hanover in 2005 to its current status as a global trade show, the IAW has continually evolved, drawing together an international community of exhibitors, buyers, and industry experts.
A Journey of Growth and Global Expansion
What began as a flash of inspiration in Hanover with 180 exhibitors and 3,500 visitors has blossomed into a premier event in the heart of Europe. Only two years after its inception, the trade fair moved to Cologne—a city celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and excellent infrastructure. This strategic relocation not only offered easy access to the Benelux countries and France but also established Cologne as the ideal venue to host a diverse range of participants from around the globe. Over the years, the IAW has provided thousands of exhibitors and trade visitors the opportunity to network, forge new partnerships, and explore the latest innovations in the retail sector.
Innovative Offerings and Inspiring Connections
At the core of the IAW’s success is its ability to continually adapt to the changing dynamics of the retail industry. The event showcases the latest products and ideas, creating an environment where inspiration and innovation thrive. As organiser Ulrich Zimmermann reflects, “It‘s incredible how quickly time has flown by and how many trade fair occasions have passed in a flash.” This sentiment captures the essence of the fair—where every edition brings a fresh wave of creative solutions and business opportunities.
Furthermore, the IAW is renowned for offering affordable prices and special purchasing terms that set it apart from other trade shows. “All the latest products are on display at the IAW, and buyers can find a wealth of inspiration here,” Zimmermann emphasizes, underscoring the event’s role as a key hub for discovering cutting-edge retail trends. Adding to the appeal, he notes, “Of course, the goods that are offered as special promotions are also particularly attractive,” which highlights the unique benefits available exclusively at the fair.
Resilience and Renewal in the Face of Challenges
The IAW Trade Fair’s impressive history has not been without its challenges. Like many global events, it faced setbacks during the coronavirus pandemic—a period that affected the entire trade show sector. Nevertheless, the fair managed to overcome this low point, emerging stronger than ever following a successful rebranding in 2024. This transformation has reinvigorated the event’s mission, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of retail innovation and continues to meet the evolving needs of its participants.
A Sense of Community and Personal Connection
Beyond the business opportunities, the IAW fosters a strong sense of community among its participants. Project Manager Kerstin Manke shares this sentiment, stating, “Sometimes it‘s like one big family. At other trade fairs you don`t have such close personal contacts with the participants.” This familial atmosphere is one of the fair’s most cherished aspects, creating a warm and engaging environment that goes far beyond typical business interactions. “And I hope this family will grow even bigger,” adds Ulrich Zimmermann, expressing a heartfelt vision for the fair’s future.
Anniversary Edition: What to Expect
The upcoming anniversary edition of the IAW is set to take place from 11 to 13 March 2025 at Halls 6 and 9 of the Cologne exhibition centre. Now in its 38th iteration, the fair is expected to welcome over 300 exhibitors and 6,000 purchasing decision-makers from more than 80 countries. Visitors can look forward to an inspiring programme that will share expert knowledge and industry insights, including the much-anticipated E-Commerce Arena—now celebrating its 20th edition—and the zentrada Forum, which continues to offer valuable know-how free of charge for trade visitors.
Expanding the Horizons with Asia-Pacific Sourcing
Coinciding with the IAW Trade Fair, Asia-Pacific Sourcing will also be on display. This segment focuses on products from Asia that cater to the home, garden, and leisure markets. With around 800 participating companies, Asia-Pacific Sourcing is poised to create unique synergies at the exhibition venue, particularly benefiting buyers from DIY stores and garden centres.
