AdJane Unveils Nm-nOMV Mucosal Booster for Respiratory Vaccine Franchises

Delft, Netherlands – September 15, 2026 -- AdJane Biosciences has published a technical white paper detailing a strategy to add a proprietary mucosal-immunity booster to established intramuscular respiratory vaccine franchises, using its clinically validated Nm-nOMV platform derived from Neisseria meningitidis outer membrane vesicles.

The paper, titled 'Boosting mRNA: Mucosal Immunity and a Platform Beyond It,' outlines a heterologous prime-boost regimen: existing intramuscular vaccines would prime systemic immunity, while an intranasal Nm-nOMV dose would generate complementary IgA responses at the respiratory mucosa, the initial entry point for pathogens.

Phase I data show intranasal Nm-nOMV induced significant nasal IgA in mRNA-primed subjects

In a post-hoc subgroup of AdJane's completed Phase I trial, participants previously immunized with Pfizer and/or Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines received a subsequent intranasal dose of an Nm-nOMV vaccine expressing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The booster was well tolerated and induced significant nasal IgA responses, providing early human evidence for the heterologous systemic-prime, mucosal-boost concept. AdJane said further clinical studies are needed to determine the magnitude, durability and clinical relevance of the additional mucosal response.

AdJane targets COVID-19, flu, RSV and combination respiratory vaccines for future application

While the initial clinical observations involve mRNA COVID-19 vaccine recipients, AdJane said limited mucosal immunity is a feature common to many intramuscular respiratory vaccination strategies, not just mRNA platforms. Pending further development and clinical validation, potential applications span COVID-19, influenza, RSV, combination respiratory vaccines and pandemic preparedness programs.

Company builds IP portfolio spanning platform, manufacturing and mRNA-OMV combinations

AdJane has developed a broad intellectual property portfolio covering the Nm-nOMV platform, manufacturing processes, mucosal delivery and vaccine-specific applications. The company has also filed separate patent applications covering combinations of OMV technology with mRNA vaccines and respiratory vaccines.
