SALT LAKE CITY – October 29, 2026 -- Albany Engineered Composites, Hexcel and Nammo Composite Solutions will apply aerospace and defense composite technology to USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS) equipment under a new partnership with 47G, targeting the 2034 Olympic Winter Games in Utah.
Nammo to manufacture carbon-fiber cowlings for two-man bobsleds
Nammo Composite Solutions will produce carbon-fiber cowlings for the team's two-man bobsleds. Albany will work with USABS to manufacture next-generation composite bobsleds. Hexcel is contributing advanced composite materials expertise.
The partnership was announced at 47G's annual Zero Gravity Summit at the Salt Palace, held as part of Hard Tech Week.
Hundredths of a second drive weight, strength and aerodynamics requirements
USABS athletes are measured in hundredths of a second, which makes sled weight, strength, aerodynamics and design critical on the track. The same combination of strength, durability and low weight has made composites essential in aircraft, missiles and unmanned systems, according to the announcement.
Albany Engineered Composites vice president Jeff Daniel said the company aims to carry its aerospace experience into a different performance challenge on the road to 2034 and beyond.
Utah Olympic Park link ties local industry to 2034 Games
USABS athletes already train and compete at Utah Olympic Park in Park City. Utah will host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2034.
47G, which says it represents more than 230 members in deeptech and aerospace and defense, is using the project to show that Utah's Olympic legacy can extend beyond hosting. CEO Aaron Starks said the 2034 Games give the state a chance to showcase the technologies, companies and talent shaping performance and innovation.
