Camden, N.J. – September 16, 2026 -- American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility in the United States, joined the City of Camden for the sixth consecutive year to install 2,977 American flags at RCA Pier Park, one for each life lost in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The ceremony, held adjacent to American Water's Camden headquarters, included a wreath dedication, a moment of silence and a siren salute. Employee volunteers from American Water and the City of Camden worked alongside first responders to place the flags at the park.
"On the 25th anniversary of September 11, American Water joins the Camden community in our sixth-year lining RCA Pier Park with 2,977 flags, one in honor of each life lost," said John Griffith, President and CEO of American Water. He credited first responders for their continued service in protecting communities.

Flags will transfer to Camden County Veterans Affairs after a week on display
The 2,977 flags will remain at RCA Pier Park for approximately one week before being donated to Camden County Veterans Affairs. The county will redeploy the flags for Veterans Day observances in November and other commemorative events throughout the year.
Camden County Commissioner Colleen Bianco Bezich, liaison to the Office of Veteran Affairs, said the flags would be preserved for use in veterans cemeteries, extending their symbolic role beyond the anniversary event.
