AOF Names Orthopedic Surgeon Peter Ajluni 2026 Lifetime Award Winner

Chicago – October 12, 2026 -- The American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) has named Peter B. Ajluni, DO, an orthopedic surgeon with more than 50 years of practice, as recipient of its 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the foundation's highest honors.

The award will be presented on Friday, Oct. 23, at the AOF Honors Gala, held in conjunction with the American Osteopathic Association's (AOA) annual OMED conference. The foundation established the award in 2006 to recognize leaders whose service embodies the values of the osteopathic profession.

Ajluni built a career in private practice and hospital leadership in Michigan

Ajluni earned his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathy, now Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a rotating internship and an orthopedic surgery residency at Mr. Clemens General Hospital in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, followed by a hand surgery fellowship at Grace Hospital in Detroit.

He has been in private practice since 1974. He served as senior orthopedic surgeon at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Michigan, formerly Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center, where he was also chief of staff. He additionally held titles at Henry Ford Bi-County Community Hospital and St. John Shores Hospital.

Ajluni has led both the AOF and the AOA as president

Beyond clinical work, Ajluni serves on the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. He previously served as president of both the AOF and the AOA, and has held leadership positions across numerous osteopathic organizations.

At least 30 members of his family, including his son Matthew, have entered osteopathic service.

AOF leadership cites mentorship and foundation support

AOF Board President Julieanne P. Sees, DO, MBA, said Ajluni was chosen for his devotion to the profession, the foundation and the wider osteopathic community, describing him as a role model and mentor to generations of DOs.

AOF Chief Executive Officer Rita Forden called him a major supporter of the foundation and said his leadership will inspire students and physicians for years to come.
