Aristotle Raises $5M Seed to Scale Voice-First AI Tutoring

San Francisco – September 18, 2026 -- Aristotle, a voice-first AI tutoring platform, has closed $5 million in seed funding led by True Ventures, with participation from Wicklow Capital and angel investors from Anthropic, OpenAI, Sierra, Ramp, and Cognition.

Closed beta logs 1,500 tutoring hours before nationwide launch

The startup is launching nationwide after a closed beta in which more than 1,000 students completed over 1,500 hours of one-on-one tutoring sessions. The platform targets students ages 13-18 across STEM subjects, standardized testing, and language learning.

Founders built the product after a decade tutoring on Wyzant and Varsity Tutors

Co-founders Shan Reddy, Jaiden Reddy, and Vivek Vajipey, all Stanford alumni, spent nearly a decade tutoring students on platforms including Wyzant and Varsity Tutors before building Aristotle. Shan Reddy, now CEO, previously worked as an early product hire at Cometeer and as an early-stage investor at True Ventures. Vivek Vajipey conducted LLM reasoning research at Stanford's Computation and Cognition Lab under Noah Goodman.

Founders say standard chatbots give answers but fail to teach

The founders said that when they encouraged students to use mainstream LLMs, the tools consistently produced answers without producing learning. Shan Reddy said even best-in-class LLMs are incapable of holding students in the "productive struggle" that a great human tutor manages, where a student is challenged but not stuck.

Milwaukee parent reports son wants to drop a $250-per-hour human tutor

Kim L., a parent in Milwaukee whose 13-year-old son Andy has used Aristotle since May, said her son suggested canceling his human tutor, who charged $250 per hour, because Aristotle was performing better.

True Ventures partner frames product as scaling personalized tutoring via software

Mike Montano, partner at True Ventures, said the goal is not to reinvent learning but to put the methods of great teachers into software accessible to every student. True Ventures manages $4 billion in committed capital across more than 450 portfolio teams.

Seed capital earmarked for team growth and general availability

Aristotle said the new funding will be used to expand the product, grow its team, and move the platform toward general availability.
