Atlanta – September 15, 2026 -- The Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade returns Sept. 19 for its 16th year with a route nearly half a mile longer than prior editions, extending the procession to almost two miles along the Beltline's Southwest Trail.
Parade route grows as Beltline corridor expansion continues
The event, launched in 2010 by resident artist Chantelle Rytter and her volunteer Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, now stretches from Beulah Colbert Park through neighborhood streets to Lee + White, where it closes with the All-Band Puppet Jam. Organizers report attendance has grown from a few hundred participants at the trail's first completed segment to thousands today, tracking the phased buildout of the Beltline's 22-mile rail-to-trail corridor.
Beltline's public art program activates 12 of 22 planned miles
The parade operates under Atlanta Beltline Art, described as the largest outdoor temporary art exhibition in the southeast, featuring more than 100 works annually and over 90 commissioned projects to date. The program activates roughly 12 miles of the corridor and reaches an estimated 2 million annual users of the Beltline trail system.

New activations add small-business and civic programming along route
This year's expansion adds activation stations from neighborhood and civic groups, plus pop-up light-based art installations along the extended route. The Atlanta Beltline Marketplace at Allene, part of the Beltline's small-business incubator program, will remain open throughout the evening, giving local vendors direct exposure to the expanded crowd.
A companion Kids Lantern Parade, presented by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, runs 4-7 p.m. at Pittsburgh Yards, with the children's procession starting at 4:30 p.m.
Corporate sponsors anchor 2026 arts programming budget
Delta Air Lines holds Gold-level sponsorship of the 2026 Atlanta Beltline Art exhibition and programming, with Northside Hospital and Ponce City Market at the Silver level. Public funding support comes through the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, and the Georgia Council for the Arts via the National Endowment for the Arts.
