Burlington, Mass. – September 16, 2026 -- Avid and Google Cloud have expanded their partnership to embed Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery directly into Avid's post-production software, launching a browser-based version of Media Composer that lets editors work from any location without dedicated hardware.
Editor survey shows 79% already use AI, mostly for transcription
A Q2 2026 Avid survey of 120 professional editors found 79% use AI in their workflows, with speech-to-text and transcription the leading application at 60%. Editors want AI confined to efficiency gains rather than creative substitution: 87% said AI is most valuable when it helps them execute creative intent faster, and 76% said its top use is freeing time for storytelling. A further 63% said AI tools need tighter integration into existing workflows to be genuinely useful.
Chrome-based Media Composer removes on-premises hardware requirement
Media Composer now runs inside the Google Chrome browser, connecting to timelines stored in Avid Content Core. Agentic features in Avid's Ready to Edit let editors issue natural-language prompts to sync media, transcribe and align dialogue, and organize bins. An embedded Gemini panel inside Media Composer can generate B-roll, source stock footage, and auto-tag, log, or translate media using existing Gemini accounts.
Semantic search cuts manual logging in Content Core
Content Core, paired with Gemini Enterprise, automatically generates transcripts and semantic descriptions as media is imported, allowing production teams to locate footage through natural-language search rather than manual tagging.
Content Core Insights links newsroom planning to broadcast data
Built with Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery, Content Core Insights connects story planning and team assignments in Content Core Planning and Rundown to editorial timelines, with finished cuts syncing back to broadcast programming as live production data. Broadcast and studio executives can query plain-language insights on staffing, resource utilization, production costs, and content performance.
Hybrid deployment keeps customer assets in their own cloud environment
The Avid Content Core Site Engine links customer Google Cloud environments to Content Core so that media processing and agentic workflows are centrally managed while compute and high-resolution assets remain within the customer's own cloud infrastructure.
Avid chief executive Wellford Dillard said customers are asking for intelligent tools that integrate into existing workflows while keeping Avid interoperable. Google Cloud's global managing director of Strategic Industries, Anil Jain, said the integration gives editors agentic workflows and intelligent search to handle production logistics while working securely from anywhere.
Avid and Google Cloud will demonstrate the workflows at IBC2026 in Amsterdam, running Sept. 11-14, across both companies' exhibition spaces.
