SPRINGFIELD – November 01, 2026 -- Baystate Health has folded Baystate Mercy Hospital, its joint venture affiliates and 45 Massachusetts medical group entities into one system, and switched the combined organization to a new Oracle Health Electronic Health Record (EHR) on the same day.
Baystate Health ran a seven-month integration program before the single-day cutover
Preparation covered the hospital and its affiliated clinics. It included moving care teams across the system onto one EHR and launching MyBaystate Health, a new patient portal. Baystate says the aim is to make health information available to providers coordinating care. CEO Peter D. Banko said the focus since April had been on Day 1 readiness for staff, patients and supporting systems.
Patients keep their locations, care teams, phone numbers and insurance coverage
Care continues at the same sites across Springfield, Chicopee and Agawam. Insurance coverage is unaffected, existing appointments proceed as scheduled, and contact numbers for the hospital and clinics are unchanged.
Mercy's Emergency Department now runs on Baystate emergency medicine faculty
The Emergency Department stays open 24/7 and is now staffed by Baystate Health's board-certified emergency medicine faculty. The Sister Caritas Cancer Center has been folded into Baystate Health's cancer program.
Andrew Ritz moves from integration lead to President and COO of Mercy
Ritz, who led the integration effort, now runs Baystate Mercy Hospital as President and COO.
Two hospitals six blocks apart face a collaboration review after stabilization
Baystate expects the systems to stabilize over the next few weeks. Physicians and clinicians will then lead efforts to define how the two hospitals, six blocks apart, collaborate on access, quality, safety and patient experience. Banko said, "Springfield must have two thriving, growing, successful hospitals."
