BfT, BRS Add Calf Vaccination Module to Cattle Health Platform

Berlin – November 06, 2026 -- Germany's animal health association BfT and the national cattle and pig federation BRS have added a calf vaccination module to their joint information platform Gesundes Kalb | Gesunde Kuh, bringing the platform to six topic modules for dairy farmers.

New module covers immunity, pathogens and diagnostics

The module provides structured information on vaccination basics, the developing immune system, relevant pathogens and suitable diagnostics. It addresses vaccination of both cow and calf against typical respiratory and diarrhea pathogens, which can strengthen the immune defenses of young animals.

It also covers the conditions that determine vaccination success: environmental factors, biosecurity, housing systems and the particular challenges of moving animals to new pens.

Four pressure points drive the prevention push

According to BfT and BRS, prevention has gained importance because of recurring animal disease outbreaks, heat stress linked to climate change, the need to control antimicrobial resistance, and animal welfare concerns.

Parasite control session set for EuroTier on Nov. 12, 2026

Farmers can also get information at EuroTier in November. On Nov. 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., Prof. Dr. Christina Strube, head of the Institute for Parasitology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, will present key points and new developments in parasite control for young cattle. Her session draws on the platform's existing parasite control module.

Platform now spans six health topics

Alongside the new vaccination module, the platform offers modules on udder health, calf health, metabolic health, claw health and parasite control.
