Yiwu, China – September 16, 2026 -- CrossBoundary Energy's (CBE) 233 MW Kamoa solar project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached full-capacity grid connection and commercial operation, just 16 months after the power purchase agreement was signed.

Kamoa becomes Africa's first solar-plus-storage project to deliver round-the-clock baseload power

The project sits adjacent to the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex, one of the world's largest copper mining operations, replacing the diesel generation that remote African mines have historically relied on for continuous production.

360,000 AIKO ABC modules with 24.2% efficiency power the installation

Kamoa uses approximately 360,000 AIKO 655 W dual-glass modules in the 66-cell format, each delivering 30 W more output than comparable products of the same format. AIKO cites the modules' temperature coefficient and hotspot suppression as factors supporting stable generation under the site's hot, high-irradiance conditions.

Project targets 7.8 billion kWh output and 78,800 tonnes of avoided emissions annually over 30 years

By pairing lower levelized cost of energy with reliable continuous supply, the project is designed to reduce Kamoa's exposure to fuel-price volatility and lower the carbon footprint of its copper production as international markets tighten carbon-related compliance requirements.

The DRC currently relies heavily on hydropower for its energy mix; CBE frames Kamoa as a replicable model for integrating renewable power into mining operations elsewhere on the continent. The delivery also extends AIKO's footprint in Africa's solar market as demand from industrial and mining customers grows.
