The Woodlands, Texas – September 15, 2026 -- Cellipont Bioservices and Xiogenix have published a joint white paper showing that Xiogenix's ARES X20+ automated fill-finish platform maintained formulation volume accuracy of 98.2% at small scale and 103.6% at large scale across an approximately 17-fold increase in process scale.

The paper, titled "Scaling Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing with Automated Formulation and Fill-Finish," details Cellipont's evaluation of the platform across small and large-scale cell therapy manufacturing workflows.

Automated platform preserves cell viability while scaling production

The evaluation found cell viability remained stable before and after automated formulation, indicating the process did not compromise cell integrity even as batch sizes increased significantly. Manual and semi-automated downstream processes are prone to variability, added handling steps and contamination risk, which the companies say become more consequential as cell therapy programs advance toward larger clinical trials and commercial launch.

Cellipont CEO says fill-finish is a scaling bottleneck for therapy developers

"Scaling cell therapy manufacturing is not simply about producing more cells — the entire manufacturing process has to scale with the therapy," said Darren Head, Chief Executive Officer of Cellipont Bioservices. He said downstream formulation and fill-finish are becoming more critical to consistency, throughput and manufacturing readiness as programs mature.

Field feedback drives next-generation platform upgrades

The joint evaluation generated practical feedback that Xiogenix has already used to implement enhancements to the ARES X20+, including improvements to priming, single-use kit capacity, pressure integrity monitoring, gravimetric control, pump calibration and product recovery. Rachel Bahr, Chief Executive Officer of Xiogenix, said the collaboration demonstrated automation's potential to add consistency and flexibility to cell therapy manufacturing while identifying areas to improve the platform further.

Companies to present findings at Boston industry summit

Cellipont Bioservices will attend the 11th CAR-TCR Summit in Boston from September 15-17, 2026, where automated manufacturing and scalability of next-generation cell therapies will be discussed among industry attendees.
