Chicago – September 15, 2026 -- CME Group has appointed Jack Tobin as its next Chief Financial Officer, effective March 2027, when current President & CFO Lynne Fitzpatrick becomes Chief Executive Officer.
Tobin moves to Deputy CFO in November 2026 ahead of formal handover
Tobin, CME Group's Chief Accounting Officer since 2015, will step into the Deputy Chief Financial Officer role in November 2026 to manage the transition before assuming the CFO title. He will continue reporting to Fitzpatrick and brings more than 35 years of financial experience, including accounting, corporate development and finance oversight at CME Group since joining in 2002. He previously worked as a principal consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers and holds bachelor's and master's degrees from DePaul University.
Matthew Render succeeds Tobin as Chief Accounting Officer
Render, who joined CME Group as Deputy Chief Accounting Officer in August 2026, will take over the Chief Accounting Officer post and report to Tobin. He previously held finance roles at Citadel, BP and Ernst & Young, and holds degrees from Northern Illinois University, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
John Marchese promoted to General Counsel, replacing Jonathan Marcus
Marchese, Managing Director & Associate General Counsel for Litigation & Information Technology since 2024, will succeed Marcus as General Counsel later this month, reporting directly to CME Group Chairman and CEO Terry Duffy. Marcus is stepping down after serving as General Counsel since 2022. Marchese joined CME Group in 2011 to lead its litigation function, following leadership roles at Arthur Andersen LLP and Latham & Watkins. He holds a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and a J.D. from the University of Chicago.
CEO Terry Duffy cites internal leadership depth in announcing the changes
Duffy said the promotions of Tobin, Marchese and Render reflect the company's leadership bench strength and thanked Marcus for his tenure as General Counsel.
