Cognizant Pools 25,000 Staff Into OpenAI Frontier Group

TEANECK – – October 30, 2026 -- Cognizant (Nasdaq: CTSH) has formed an OpenAI Frontier Capability Group of more than 25,000 professionals dedicated to delivering OpenAI products, including Codex and ChatGPT, to enterprise clients.

The group targets how enterprises write software, serve customers and run daily operations with OpenAI models. Cognizant says model access is no longer the main constraint for many enterprises. The shortage is skilled professionals who can build with those models inside business-critical systems.

Cognizant has certified 21,000 associates with 40,000 OpenAI badges

More than 21,000 Cognizant associates have earned over 40,000 OpenAI badges, each awarded for completing learning tracks on OpenAI technologies. The new group adds an organization that builds and supports OpenAI-powered systems for clients.

The work is expected to draw on Cognizant's Frontier workforce model. Under it, the company is developing Frontier Certified Engineers and Frontier Business Operators, credentialed directly by frontier-model companies.

Cognizant's own sales teams already run on OpenAI models

Cognizant's sales and customer success teams use a solution built on OpenAI models to find and pursue new opportunities. The company says client work can therefore start from methods tested inside a global enterprise.

CEO Ravi Kumar S said Cognizant started with its own business: "OpenAI is beginning to reshape how we sell."

Three initial focus areas span Codex, mainframe modernization and customer operations

The group will first concentrate on AI-native software engineering with Codex, application modernization and agentic customer operations. Codex is designed to support engineers as they write, test and ship code.

For modernization, the group will use Cognizant Application Modernizer, powered by OpenAI models, across the full lifecycle, from reverse engineering legacy mainframe code to generating cloud-native code. Engineers review every consequential decision. Cognizant cites experience modernizing mainframe systems for more than 500 clients.

In customer operations, the group will apply OpenAI models to sales, service and support.

Biopharma assistant has handled 5 million conversations and cut content creation time 60%

At a global biopharmaceutical company, Cognizant co-engineered an OpenAI-powered enterprise assistant that combines search, content creation, translation and approvals in one place. It has handled more than 5 million conversations and cut content creation time by 60%.

Cognizant is one of a select group of Advanced partners in the OpenAI Partner Network. Its Codex hackathons in India and the Americas drew more than 12,000 participants.

OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic said the dedicated practice and Cognizant's internal deployment will help more enterprises turn AI into business impact.
