Basel – September 15, 2026 -- CordenPharma has committed a multi-year €80 million investment to expand sterile injectable manufacturing at its Caponago, Italy site, targeting total production capacity of up to 500 million injectable units per year.
CordenPharma finalizes €13 million site acquisition to expand Caponago footprint by over 50%
The company closed a €13 million acquisition of an 11,000 m2 commercial building and 26,000 m2 of adjacent land on 28 July 2026, expanding the FDA- and EMA-approved Caponago site by more than 50%. The new space can accommodate at least four aseptic fill & finish lines, four visual inspection lines, and four packaging lines, with options for customer-owned lines, large-scale lyophilization, and auto-injector assembly. It is designed to support peptide, LNP, small molecule, biologic, and oligonucleotide-based injectables in formats including pre-filled syringes, vials, cartridges, and auto-injectors, integrated on the same campus as CordenPharma's existing LNP manufacturing.
Two new isolator lines add high-speed capacity ahead of 2027-2028 completion
Within its existing operational area at Caponago, CordenPharma is adding two aseptic fill & finish isolator lines: a clinical and small-scale commercial combo line from Bausch & Ströbel for pre-filled syringes, vials, and cartridges, and a high-speed line from Syntegon capable of producing more than 500,000 pre-filled syringe and cartridge units per day. The expansion also includes an enlarged automatic secondary packaging area for syringes, vials, and ampoules, plus a doubling of analytical capacity. Completion of the two lines is targeted for mid-2027 and 2028, respectively.
Expansion targets rising demand for GLP-1, oncology and biologics injectables
CordenPharma positions the buildout to address outsourcing demand across oncology, obesity, diabetes and inflammatory disease therapeutics, including peptide-based GLP-1 drugs, oligonucleotides, LNPs and biosimilars. Dr. Michael Quirmbach, President & CEO of CordenPharma Group, said the investment, backed by shareholder Astorg, strengthens the company's manufacturing of complex modalities and end-to-end supply capabilities to help partners bring injectable drug products to patients more efficiently.
