CPSC Names Paul Brubaker Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer

Washington, D.C. – September 16, 2026 -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has appointed Paul Brubaker as its new Executive Director, installing him as the agency's chief operating officer over programmatic, operational, and administrative functions.

Brubaker takes charge of CPSC's regulatory portfolio and hazard-response operations

Brubaker will manage CPSC's regulatory portfolio and help direct efforts to identify and address consumer product hazards. He brings nearly four decades of public and private sector leadership in technology, cybersecurity, data analytics, organizational strategy, and federal management.

Career spans Senate-confirmed federal posts and healthcare-technology advisory work

In 2007, the U.S. Senate confirmed Brubaker to lead the Research and Innovative Technology Administration at the Department of Transportation. He also held senior leadership roles at the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Energy, and War, focusing on modernizing government operations and information systems. Most recently, he served as Chief Mission Officer at Commence, a private firm integrating data, AI, and clinical healthcare expertise, where he advised federal health agencies on improving mission performance and health outcomes.

Acting Chairman cites technology and data as mission-critical for hazard detection

Acting Chairman Peter A. Feldman said Brubaker brings "precisely the combination of government, technology, and private-sector experience that CPSC needs at this moment." Feldman said the agency's ability to protect American families increasingly depends on how effectively it uses technology and data to identify emerging hazards, target dangerous products, and deploy resources.

Brubaker holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Ohio institutions

Brubaker received a Master of Public Administration from Kent State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Youngstown State University.
