Austin, Texas – October 07, 2026 -- Critical Materials Group (CMG) has acquired Rocky Mountain Scientific Laboratory (RMSL), merging a national security energetics research lab with a domestic munitions manufacturing platform under one corporate entity. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Swanson moves from RMSL CEO to CMG Chief Science Officer
Travis Swanson, CEO and Co-Founder of RMSL, will now serve as Chief Science Officer at CMG. Swanson had co-founded CMG while simultaneously leading RMSL, a lab focused on rapid energetics solutions for military and law enforcement agencies, before the two organizations formally combined.
Deal targets the lab-to-factory bottleneck in energetics development
New energetic materials often stall between laboratory development and factory-floor production, where scale-up, qualification and safety engineering are typically managed by separate organizations working from disconnected data sets. Kevin Capozzoli, CEO and Co-Founder of Critical Materials Group, said the acquisition places research and manufacturing under one roof, with Swanson directing the science while CMG's platforms handle production.
Combined entity adds capacity alongside government and prime contractor facilities
Pairing RMSL's development and testing work with CMG's modular, automation-ready manufacturing is intended to shorten the path from concept to qualified production. The combined operation adds domestic energetics capacity alongside government-owned and prime contractor facilities, which currently carry most of the production workload in the sector.
Swanson said the merger unites both sides of the production problem: RMSL researches and develops materials while CMG manufactures them at scale, aiming to move materials from concept to qualified production faster than the existing system allows.
