Datascan Rules Out Sale, Pledges Independence for Pharmacy Software

BOHEMIA, N.Y. – October 31, 2026 -- Datascan, a pharmacy software vendor serving independent community pharmacies in the United States and the Bahamas, said it will stay independently owned and will not be sold to a private-equity group, corporate consolidator or industry roll-up.

President and Owner Kevin Minassian said the company received repeated acquisition interest over several years. One offer was financially significant and advanced far enough that he seriously considered selling, but the proposed terms changed late in the process. Datascan walked away from the deal.

Succession plan keeps ownership in the family or with staff

Minassian said future succession could involve continued family ownership or an internal transition to members of the Datascan team. He has begun discussing with his daughters whether they could become the third generation to participate in ownership or leadership. In his words, the company is being built "to last," not to be sold to the highest bidder.

Datascan pledges no mandated payment processors or claims switches

The company said it will not require customers to use a particular credit card processor, insurance claims switch or other third-party vendor solely because the arrangement generates additional revenue for Datascan. Customers will choose their own processors, switches, hardware and third-party vendors. Datascan also committed to transparent pricing without forced add-ons or surprise fees.

The pledge targets practices Datascan attributes to consolidation in pharmacy software. It says owners have faced discontinued products, higher prices, reduced service and vendor requirements imposed by software providers.

Support metrics: answers in under 20 seconds, 9% of calls held over 2 minutes

Datascan reported that over the last 12 months, based on its phone system report, support calls were answered in under 20 seconds on average. Only 9% of calls waited two minutes or longer for a representative. The average employee has 11 or more years of tenure.

The company said it will not replace any support team member with an AI agent. It plans to keep investing in experienced support staff and programmers rather than outsourcing or consolidating support operations.

Product roadmap spans POS, mobile, delivery and nearly 100 integrations

Datascan said it will continue and accelerate investment in its technology ecosystem, which comprises:

  • Core pharmacy management platform
  • Integrated point-of-sale system
  • Patient-facing mobile application
  • Delivery management application
  • Workflow automation and customization
  • Central store management
  • Long-term care and compounding capabilities
  • Integrations with nearly 100 third-party pharmacy technology providers

Datascan serves independently owned community pharmacies rather than national retail chains or large corporate pharmacy groups, and Minassian said that focus will not change.
