Dentsply Sirona and Project 32 Deliver Advanced Dental Care to Amazonian Communities Through Digital Innovation

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 27, 2025 – In a landmark effort to expand access to high-quality oral healthcare, Dentsply Sirona, the world’s largest diversified manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies, has successfully completed a week-long dental expedition in partnership with Brazilian NGO Project 32. This initiative, part of Dentsply Sirona’s sustainability program “BEYOND: Taking Action for a Brighter World,” brought advanced, free dental care to remote Amazonian communities, combining on-site and digital expertise to reach some of Brazil’s most underserved populations.

Connecting Dentists and Patients Through Digital Dentistry

The expedition, held from June 1 to 7, delivered state-of-the-art oral treatments to residents of Rolim de Moura do Guaporé, a remote municipality in northern Brazil’s Rondônia state, home to more than 55,000 people. A total of 20 dentists participated—half providing in-person care, while the other half contributed remotely from their clinics thanks to DS Core, Dentsply Sirona’s cloud-based platform. This digital infrastructure enabled real-time sharing and assessment of intraoral scans, allowing remote experts to diagnose and recommend treatments without travel, dramatically increasing clinical capacity while reducing environmental impact.

  • Scope of the mission:
    • Over 2000 endodontic and restorative procedures performed.
    • Advanced intraoral scanning and same-day prosthetic fabrication deployed.
    • A hybrid team approach maximizing expertise and efficiency.

Long-Term Impact of the Project 32 Partnership

Since its inception in 2013, the partnership between Dentsply Sirona and Project 32 has facilitated more than 30,000 advanced dental procedures in Brazil’s socially vulnerable communities. Dr. Manoel Eduardo de Lima Machado, founder of Project 32, emphasized the transformative power of digital dentistry, stating: “By using advanced techniques and high-performance technologies, we’re able to deliver exceptional care that is efficient for everyone involved. Digital dentistry brings both safety and agility — for the patient and the professional. The dentistry we practice is exactly what should be accessible to everyone, whether they are in the public or private healthcare system.”

Andrea Frohning, SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer at Dentsply Sirona, reinforced the importance of the latest mission by saying: “Our latest expedition is a powerful example of how digital technologies are advancing care in remote areas and increasing access to oral health care. We are transforming lives while also supporting our goal of creating 25 million healthy smiles by the end of 2025.”

A Broader Commitment to Oral Health Access

Separate from Project 32, Dentsply Sirona is also partnering with other organizations such as Smile Train, Amazon Doctors, and TeamSmile to increase access to oral health.
