SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 18, 2025 – Dentsply Sirona has launched a pioneering CAD/CAM zirconia abutment block that uniquely merges high strength with superior esthetics for implant-based restorations. The CEREC Cercon 4D™ Multidimensional Zirconia Abutment Block debuts alongside the new Calibra® Abutment Resin Cement, delivering a streamlined, high-performance chairside workflow for dental professionals.
Innovative layering for natural-looking implant restorations
Unlike traditional multilayer zirconia blocks built with flat horizontal layers, CEREC Cercon 4D™ uses a proprietary 3-dimensional layering process. Its dome-shaped dentin core contains increased opacity and pigment, surrounded by a more translucent enamel layer—closely mimicking the natural composition of teeth. The result is an esthetic solution that effectively masks TiBases and integrates seamlessly with VITA® 1 shade matching.
The block offers:
- More than 1100 MPa in flexural strength
- A minimum wall thickness of just 0.5 mm
- Dual indication for both hybrid abutments and screw-retained crowns
This material is especially suited for limited-space restorations while preserving mechanical reliability and lifelike appearance.
Efficient chairside production with CEREC systems
The new block is fully integrated with Dentsply Sirona’s CEREC digital workflow, providing a high-speed, high-precision restoration pathway. When used with CEREC Primemill® and CEREC SpeedFire®, practitioners can complete screw-retained crowns chairside in under an hour.
- Milling time: approx. 15 minutes
- Sintering time: approx. 36 minutes
- Requires CEREC® Software Version 5.2.11 or higher
Together with the CEREC ecosystem, this solution shortens clinical turnaround time while maintaining high-quality restorative outcomes.
New Calibra® cement for secure, simplified bonding
The simultaneous release of Calibra® Abutment Resin Cement complements the new zirconia block. Designed for extraoral cementation, the ultra-opaque resin hides metallic components, reduces the risk of show-through, and ensures strong bonding—even after disinfection and autoclaving.
Its key benefits include:
- High bond strength for long-term performance
- Shade-masking properties for improved esthetics
- Simplified cleanup process for faster workflows
This cement addresses cross-contamination concerns and supports infection control measures in modern clinical practice.
A milestone in esthetic implant prosthetics
“CEREC Cercon 4D™ Multidimensional Zirconia Abutment Block is the world’s first highly esthetic CAD/CAM zirconia abutment block for implant restorations, constructed to mimic a natural tooth,” explained Arjan de Roy, Group Vice President Essential Dental Solutions at Dentsply Sirona. “It is currently also the only zirconia abutment block that can be used for both hybrid abutments as well as hybrid abutment crowns. This special block enables dentists to achieve excellent chairside results for their implant patients with confidence.”
This advancement underscores Dentsply Sirona’s commitment to innovation in digital dentistry, giving practitioners more versatility, esthetics, and speed without compromise.
