DETROIT – October 29, 2026 -- DTE Energy has put its 132-megawatt Fish Creek Solar Park near Sheridan, Michigan, into operation. The $268 million project was fully funded by customers who voluntarily participate in the utility's MIGreenPower program.
MIGreenPower customers fund the full $268 million build
DTE says the voluntary program adds generation capacity without raising costs for other customers. The park can produce enough energy to power approximately 30,000 homes.
Matt Paul, president and chief operating officer of DTE Electric, said new generation such as Fish Creek is part of how the utility keeps the lights on while holding bills as affordable as possible.
Montcalm County gains tens of millions in tax revenue
The project will generate tens of millions of dollars in additional tax revenue for Montcalm County and the townships of Bushnell and Evergreen. DTE says the revenue will support schools, first responders, roads, and veteran and senior citizen services.
Construction created hundreds of local jobs. Participating landowners receive supplemental income from the site.
Two townships receive $330,000 grants each under state program
Bushnell and Evergreen townships each received $330,000 through Michigan's Renewables Ready Communities Award, a grant for local governments that host large-scale renewable projects. Both plan to spend the funds on town hall and fire station renovations and other community improvements.
DTE targets 15 gigawatts of added renewables by 2042
DTE operates 20 wind parks and 37 solar parks across Michigan. Together they generate enough clean energy to power nearly 1 million homes.
The company's 2026 Integrated Resource Plan includes an additional 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2042. DTE's electric unit serves 2.3 million customers in Southeast Michigan.
