Emirates Flight Catering Wins Food Waste Award for LFC Biodigesters

FREMONT – October 31, 2026 -- Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) has been named Best Food Waste Initiative of the Year 2026 at the Middle East Waste & Recycling (MEWAR) Awards 2026 for diverting food waste from landfill across its Dubai operations with Power Knot LLC's LFC biodigester.

The LFC biodigester uses beneficial microorganisms to convert food waste into grey water within 24 hours. Each unit connects to the LFC Cloud, which provides real-time data on waste processed and environmental impact. Judges cited the carbon footprint reduction compared with landfill disposal, along with operational improvements, enhanced security and cost savings.

EKFC scales from a 2024 vegetable-waste pilot to a custom LFC-3000 unit

EKFC piloted an LFC-50 biodigester in 2024, processing vegetable waste only. In December 2025, it commissioned a custom-built LFC-3000 biodigester fitted with a Power Knot Automated Feed System that lifts, shreds and conveys food waste into the chamber.

EKFC moves the LFC-50 to a second site and orders another LFC-3000 for Food Point

The LFC-50 unit has been relocated to a second EKFC site. A second LFC-3000 is now on order for EKFC's Food Point facility, extending the deployment across the caterer's operations.

EKFC presented the project at its Sustainability Expo 2026, where it also gave Power Knot an Appreciation Award.

Shakeel Khaleel, Director of Sales and Marketing at Power Knot Middle East, said EKFC has one of the best food waste implementations in the region and is showing other operators what is possible.
