Gatekeeper Launches New FaceFirst to Flag Known Retail Offenders

Foothill Ranch – October 29, 2026 -- Gatekeeper Systems has launched a rebuilt version of its FaceFirst facial recognition platform, which alerts retail security teams the moment an enrolled known offender enters a store. The system runs ROC's algorithm, ranked #3 globally in NIST testing.

FaceFirst merges separate portal, dashboards and insights panels into one interface

The update replaces the previously separate portal, dashboards and insights panels with a single environment. Gatekeeper says loss prevention and security staff can complete common tasks with fewer clicks. The platform also adds analytics, data governance and audit features, a modern architecture, and faster event-resolution tagging.

New tools target organized retail crime networks and repeat offenders

Four additions drive the commercial pitch:

  • Accomplice Linking: tracks associations among known offenders to expose organized retail crime networks and fraud rings.
  • Criminal Behavior Analysis: shows offender patterns across monitored stores in multiple cities and states, helping retailers build prosecutable cases.
  • Enhanced Mapping: identifies top repeat-offender locations and pre-enrollment visit history to guide resource allocation.
  • Data Governance and Compliance: expanded tools meant to support responsible use and compliance with privacy laws and regulations.
ROC algorithm ranks #1 among American developers in NIST FRTE testing

FaceFirst integrates ROC's facial recognition algorithm. It is ranked #1 among American developers and #3 globally in the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Face Recognition Technology Evaluation (FRTE). Alerts feed human review and decision-making rather than automated action.

Gatekeeper CEO Eric Schoch said real-time alerts let associates engage early with service-oriented interaction, which often resolves a situation with "no escalation, no loss."

Matt Howard, Vice President and Head of Product, said the release makes an industry-leading solution more accessible and efficient for loss prevention teams.

Gatekeeper frames the expanded governance features as a response to facial recognition becoming a standard part of the retail safety stack, where transparency and ethical oversight are increasingly required.
