Vienna – – October 14, 2026 -- GSMA Intelligence presented its white paper "a target architecture for telecoms cybersecurity" for the first time globally at the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit, held during the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026. At the same event, ITU-T SG13 and WBBA launched a joint initiative urging carriers to build secure, resilient networks as AI reshapes both threats and revenue models.
GSMA Intelligence names native security and in-depth defense as the two core pillars
The white paper calls for security to be embedded in network elements across design, production, deployment and operation ("Native Security"). Its second pillar, in-depth defense, provides multi-layered, domain-based protection against complex and persistent threats.
The paper also warns of quantum decryption risk: bad actors harvest and store encrypted data for later decryption. Carriers need new cryptographic algorithms and cybersecurity practices that resist future quantum attacks.
ITU-T SG13 and WBBA launch "Build Resilient, Secure IP Networks Together" initiative
The initiative asks global carriers to strengthen network security and resilience to guarantee service reliability and continuity in the AI era. Representatives from ITU-T SG13 and AV-TEST told the summit that AI has accelerated and amplified attack scales, breaking the traditional balance between offense and defense. They said security and resilience must be treated as a strategic imperative and built into network architecture by design.
Huawei frames AI as a network monetization engine
Leon Wang, President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, said AI has evolved from an efficiency tool into a network monetization engine, and that sustained growth requires a secure, resilient foundation. John Cai, Vice President of the same product line, detailed the upgraded Huawei NG WAN Solution. Executives from leading global carriers also shared roadmaps for network security resilience and autonomous networking.
IPv6 Forum honors Egypt's NTRA for national network resilience policy
The President of the IPv6 Forum presented Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) with the "Pioneer of National Network Resilience Policy" award. NTRA Executive President and CEO Eng. Shamroukh said the award recognizes efforts in building resilient and secure IP networks and advancing child online safety initiatives.
