Hunt Auctions Sells Jordan 1998 Finals Jersey for Record $14M

Exton, Pennsylvania – October 12, 2026 -- Hunt Auctions has brokered a private treaty sale of a Michael Jordan 1998 NBA Finals Game Two road jersey for $14,000,000, a world record for any piece of basketball memorabilia and the second-highest price paid for a game-used jersey in any sport.

The price tops the $12,260,000 realized by Jordan's home jersey from Game Three of the same Finals. That jersey sold at auction on September 29, 2026, so the record has moved up by $1,740,000 within roughly two weeks.

Red road jerseys from Games 1, 2 and 6 drive collector demand

Jordan wore his red mesh road jersey in Games 1, 2 and 6 of the 1998 Finals. Only one of those jerseys had previously sold at public auction. Game 6 produced the image of his last shot as a Chicago Bull, which has made the red jerseys the "holy grails" of his Finals pieces.

Game Two jersey was worn in a 93-88 Bulls win over Utah

Jordan wore the jersey on June 5, 1998, when the Bulls beat the Utah Jazz 93-88 for their first win of the series after a surprise Game One loss. He scored 37 points, second only to the 45 he scored in the Game 6 clincher that earned him Finals MVP.

Provenance traces to a direct Bulls purchase and two photomatch authentications

A collector bought the jersey directly from the Chicago Bulls. It has changed hands only once since that original purchase. Documentation includes a 2003 letter from Jeff Schultz, the Bulls' longtime Director of Community Relations, who called it one of the finest game-worn jerseys he had seen in more than 15 years of managing the team's memorabilia.

MeiGray Authentication and SIA Authentication photomatched the jersey to Game Two. Jordan also autographed it in a signing authenticated by Upper Deck.

Hunt says Jordan memorabilia now trades like an elite asset class

Hunt Auctions President David Hunt said Jordan's memorabilia has escalated into an elite asset class more typically reserved for iconic works of art. He placed Jordan and Babe Ruth above all others in American sports history, citing 36 years of market experience.

The buyer is sports memorabilia collector Ron Firman, originally from Rye, NY.

Hunt Auctions is now accepting consignments for its annual Super Bowl LXI Live Auction, scheduled for February 13, 2027, in Los Angeles.
