IDC Names Autodesk a Leader in First Construction Software Assessment

SAN FRANCISCO – October 28, 2026 -- Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has been placed in the Leaders category of the inaugural IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Construction Management Software 2026 Vendor Assessment (September 2026, IDC #US54135526).

IDC defines construction management software as platforms that manage the construction lifecycle. The scope covers BIM integration, coordination, preconstruction, project management, virtual design and construction (VDC) and project team collaboration.

IDC cites three Autodesk strengths: platform depth, embedded AI and partners

First, IDC points to Autodesk's construction industry experience and its design-to-operate platform. The platform includes project and geospatial information and a digital twin offering meant to simplify post-project handoff.

Second, IDC highlights AI agents embedded for specific tasks: model information, schedules, RFIs and submittals. A general Autodesk Assistant covers cross-domain work and model analysis.

Third, IDC notes the partner ecosystem model. Autodesk Platform Services, formerly Forge, offers applications, APIs and an open approach to building new applications. Autodesk also runs multiple construction communities and partner advisory councils. One large general contractor customer called its long-time relationship with Autodesk "mutually beneficial."

IDC advises buyers to consider Autodesk for a single lifecycle platform

IDC's buyer guidance recommends Autodesk for organizations seeking one construction management platform across the project life cycle. That covers BIM visualization, model coordination, preconstruction, project management and operational hand-off, backed by a strong partner ecosystem and a global team.

Jeffrey Hojlo, research vice president at IDC, said Autodesk's Leader status reflects broad capabilities, embedded AI investments and an established partner ecosystem. He called these "important considerations for organizations seeking to improve collaboration and continuity throughout project delivery."

Autodesk Forma links architects, engineers and builders with more than 400 integrations

Autodesk Forma is the company's industry cloud for architecture, engineering and construction (AEC). It uses AI to weigh key decisions against targets for cost, schedule and sustainability. Its open ecosystem includes more than 400 integrations through technology partners and Forma Construction Connect.

Lalith Subramanian, vice president of product and engineering at Autodesk Construction Solutions, said the strategy aims to move project information from design through delivery with AI embedded in workflows.

Autodesk adds Forma Bid beta and a Daily Log Agent at Autodesk University 2026

At Autodesk University 2026, the company announced Forma Bid, now in beta, to help contractors compare bids and identify potential gaps in scope. It also announced AI-powered insights in Project Home in Forma Build that surface project issues needing attention.

A third addition, the Daily Log Agent, turns spoken jobsite updates into structured daily logs.

IDC MarketScape scores vendors on Capabilities, which covers short-term product, go-to-market and business execution, and on Strategy, which covers alignment with customer requirements over three to five years. Icon size shows market share.
