Carlsbad – October 29, 2026 -- ImpediMed has appointed Nicole L. Stout, DPT, CLT-LANA, FAPTA, as Chief Clinical Innovation Officer, effective November 1, 2026, to speed adoption of its SOZO Digital Health Platform in cancer survivorship care.
Stout will lead clinical strategy, research, medical affairs and key opinion leader engagement. Her mandate is to expand use of the platform across care settings.
Stout's research helped establish the Prospective Surveillance Model
Stout has spent more than 25 years in cancer rehabilitation and survivorship. Her research helped build the evidence base for the Prospective Surveillance Model (PSM), which pairs pretreatment baseline assessments with risk-stratified interval monitoring. Patients are referred to supportive care when changes appear.
She has designed and implemented surveillance pathways in health systems. According to the company, these pathways shortened time to intervention for cancer treatment-related conditions and improved clinical operations and service-line performance.
Former American Cancer Society director brings NIH and WHO experience
Most recently, Stout was Senior Director of Survivorship and Wellness at the American Cancer Society, where she led a national portfolio of supportive care programs. Earlier roles include positions at the West Virginia University Cancer Institute and the NIH Clinical Center. She has led strategic initiatives involving the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization. She has also published more than 100 peer-reviewed and invited articles on survivorship care delivery.
Regulatory and accreditation steps widen SOZO's clinical footprint
SOZO is already established in lymphedema assessment. The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) Optimal Resources for Breast Care 2027 standards name bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) as a method that meets Standard 5.8, the new lymphedema assessment requirement.
In August 2026, ImpediMed received FDA 510(k) clearance for sarcopenia risk assessment. Care teams can now use the same scan to monitor muscle loss. ImpediMed says the two capabilities give health systems a base for surveillance programs spanning cancer types and treatment settings.
CEO Erik Anderson targets SOZO as a survivorship standard of care
ImpediMed Managing Director and CEO Erik Anderson described Stout as having "a rare combination of scientific leadership and a proven ability to translate innovation into clinical practice." He said she will help drive SOZO as a standard of care for cancer survivorship.
Stout said the evidence for early, proactive supportive care is compelling, but impact depends on what health systems can consistently deliver. She said she has followed SOZO and BIS technology for years and will focus on connecting objective assessment with clinical workflows and measurable outcomes.
