Mies, Switzerland – September 15, 2026 -- Marelli has become a partner of the FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum in Mies, Switzerland, contributing a dedicated exhibit that traces two decades of Engine Control Unit development for motorcycle racing.
Museum showcases more than 40 official motorbikes across nine themed areas
Created by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, the Racing Motorcycle Museum covers seven disciplines -- Circuit Racing, Motocross, Enduro, Rally, Trial, Track Racing and Electric -- organized around three pillars: Heroes, Technologies, and From Race to Road.
Marelli's section displays a technological timeline of landmark ECUs
Titled "Everything is detectable -- electronics," the exhibit opens with the MVL4 ECU from the early 2000s, the first unit to use multiple processors, enabling traction control, anti-wheelie systems, engine braking and electronic throttle control (Drive-by-Wire). The timeline continues with the AGO-340, an ultra-compact engine and vehicle control unit used in MotoGP from 2014 to 2023, followed by the REX-140 for Moto2, Endurance and Special series, and the off-road REX-120, which powered wins at the Dakar Rally and other championships. The BAZ-340, in use in MotoGP since 2023, builds on the AGO-340 with enhanced computational power for high-speed communication and advanced control strategies.
Interactive displays let visitors test simulated racing electronics
The exhibit includes an interactive area simulating motorcycle racing on track, a graphical visualization of the relationship between control unit function and vehicle behavior, and a digital dashboard offering technical details, historic championship photos and background on Marelli's motorsport history.
Executives frame the partnership as recognition of electronics' role in racing
Riccardo De Filippi, Head of Marelli Motorsport, said the company has been part of motorcycle racing "through the continued evolution of our technologies" over the decades. Fabio Muner, FIM Marketing and Digital Director, said the exhibits show how advanced electronics contribute to performance, safety and innovation within FIM World Championships.
