BETHESDA – November 04, 2026 -- Marriott International has opened its 800th property in Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) and entered Laos for the first time with La Résidence Phou Vao, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, in Luang Prabang.
36-suite hilltop resort anchors Marriott's Laos debut
The resort occupies three acres of tropical gardens on Phou Vao hill, two kilometers from Luang Prabang's old town. Marriott describes it as the only hillside retreat within the UNESCO World Heritage zone. It joins The Luxury Collection with its original architecture, landscape and hilltop pool preserved. Interiors, culinary identity and guest rituals have been reworked to meet the brand's global standards.
Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, said the milestone reflects the trust owners and guests place in Marriott. He said the opening underscores the company's commitment to expanding "thoughtfully" in culturally rich destinations.
Suite categories and dining anchor the room and food offer
All 36 accommodations are suites, in three categories: Garden Heritage, Mountain View and Phou Si Temple. Select suites have separate living spaces and private terraces.
La Brasserie de la Résidence serves a contemporary French menu built on seasonal produce, garden herbs and regional ingredients. A dedicated Lao tasting menu runs alongside it. The Be Epicurean program adds daily pre-sunset terrace nibbles and a private dining experience in the garden of Villa des Arts, a preserved colonial residence five minutes from the resort.
Mekong Spa and 13-meter infinity pool round out the wellness program
The award-winning Mekong Spa offers five signature treatments, including a ritual using Hmong indigo compresses and the Sip Sen Lao massage. It also has a sauna, relaxation lounge and pool. A 13-meter cliff-edge freshwater infinity pool, a fitness center and a dawn gong meditation ritual complete the on-site offer.
Excursions extend to Pak Ou Caves, Kuang Si Waterfalls and Manifa Sanctuary
Off-property programming includes sunset cruises at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers and boat trips to the Pak Ou Caves. Guests can also visit the Kuang Si Waterfalls and the Manifa Sanctuary elephant habitat. The resort is now accepting guests.
