Amsterdam – September 16, 2026 -- NetActuate has activated NETINT Quadra Video Processing Units (VPUs) in 15 of its global points of presence, offering engineering teams a self-service alternative to hyperscaler transcoding services and direct hardware procurement.
VPU-as-a-Service eliminates hardware procurement for video encoding teams
The expansion builds on a partnership between NetActuate and NETINT Technologies first announced in February 2026. Customers can attach a NETINT VPU directly to a virtual machine or managed Kubernetes node via secure passthrough, gaining full pipeline control, tooling, and observability without buying servers or VPU cards outright. Bare metal integrations are also available, and additional custom deployments can be built in markets beyond the initial 15 locations.
Model targets hyperscaler black-box transcoding pricing and lock-in
NetActuate positions the offering against hyperscaler transcoding services, where jobs are submitted into a third-party pipeline with fixed pricing and turnaround times. Its model instead deploys a VPU into the customer's own compute environment in seconds, compatible with existing open-source or commercial encoding software, avoiding proprietary transcoding APIs. NETINT's Bitstreams software and Bitstreams Manager can also run on the VPU for customers seeking a single-vendor platform.
NetActuate Media Marketplace extends stack from ingest to delivery
The NETINT partnership now covers NetActuate's Media Marketplace, running on the same global network as the VPU acceleration service. This allows customers to combine NETINT's Bitstreams encoding software with partner appliances to assemble a complete video processing stack, from ingest through delivery, without routing through a hyperscaler service.
Randal Horne, Chief Revenue Officer at NETINT Technologies, said the 15-location expansion combined with self-service deployment and the Marketplace gives teams a low-risk way to test VPU-based encoding before committing to scale.
Turnkey deployment available now via portal and API
VPUaaS is live as a turnkey offering: a VPU-enabled virtual machine or Kubernetes node can be deployed in seconds through the NetActuate portal or API, with pre-installed capacity active in the 15 locations and custom hardware builds available elsewhere on request. NetActuate is offering no-charge evaluation deployments for qualified prospects assessing VPU-based encoding.
