Houston – – October 13, 2026 -- Nightpeak Energy has closed financing on and brought online its 150 MW, two-hour Bocanova 2 battery storage project in Southeast Texas, doubling the Bocanova site to 300 MW as data centers and other large loads drive electricity demand growth on the ERCOT grid.
Bocanova 2 reached commercial operation on September 17
The project is the second phase of Nightpeak's battery development in Brazoria County, near the Houston metropolitan area. The first 150 MW phase, Bocanova 1, began commercial operation in August 2025. The site is located in what the company describes as one of the country's fastest-growing electricity load centers.
Tesla Megapack 2 XL systems anchor the 150 MW build
Bocanova 2 uses Tesla's Megapack 2 XL battery storage systems. It operates under a long-term offtake agreement with an investment-grade counterparty, which the source does not name.
MUFG Bank and U.S. Bank supply the capital stack
MUFG Bank provided a tax equity bridge loan and a construction-to-term loan. U.S. Bank provided traditional tax equity. Financial terms and total project cost were not disclosed.
Nightpeak's portfolio tops 1 GW since its 2022 founding
Since its founding in 2022, Nightpeak has developed and acquired more than 1 GW of operating and de-risked capacity spanning gas-fired generation, battery storage and powered land development. The company continues to advance an additional pipeline of flexible generation and large-load projects in the U.S.
Paris Hays, Nightpeak co-founder and CEO/CDO, said large loads are arriving at a pace and scale that is changing how the power sector plans for new demand, and that Texas needs both new infrastructure and resources that can respond quickly to changing conditions.
