San Francisco – October 12, 2026 -- PayJoy, which serves more than 20 million customers across nine countries, has acquired select strategic assets of Finia AI, Inc., a venture-backed fintech that built AI underwriting for micro-businesses in Mexico. The announcement did not state a price.
PayJoy to apply Finia's underwriting technology across its global platform
The deal lets PayJoy use Finia's technology and expertise to strengthen its underwriting and widen its product range for customers with limited access to formal credit. PayJoy operates in Latin America, Africa and Asia, offering digitally secured smartphone financing, credit lines and the PayJoy Card. It has financed more than $3.5 billion of loans and employs more than 1,000 people.
Finia built credit models for borrowers with thin financial data
Finia designed its AI underwriting for micro-businesses with limited financial data and owners with little or no formal credit history. It used the models to offer credit cards and installment loans, and has served tens of thousands of micro-businesses in Mexico. Its investors include Deciens Capital, Precursor Ventures and Clocktower Technology Ventures.
Executives frame the deal around risk assessment at scale
Jose Luis Gonzalez, Head of Growth for PayJoy Mexico, said Finia's work addresses the challenge of assessing creditworthiness "when traditional financial data is limited." He said the capabilities will improve how PayJoy assesses risk and broaden its products across its markets.
Finia founder and CEO Uri Pomerantz said PayJoy's global reach gives the technology a path to scale beyond Latin America.
Eligible Finia customers gain access to PayJoy loans
The two companies are also partnering so that eligible Finia customers can apply for PayJoy's loans and other financial products, subject to PayJoy's eligibility requirements and approval.
