SHERIDAN, WYOMING - March 09, 2026 - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its 2025 Annual Safety Report, presenting a mixed safety picture for airlines and related operators: total accidents fell year-on-year, but fatal accidents and onboard fatalities rose. The report lists 51 accidents among 38.7 million flights in 2025, down from 54 accidents among 37.9 million flights in 2024, while fatal accidents increased to eight and onboard fatalities rose to 394. For executives and operational leaders, these outcomes highlight where safety performance has improved and where targeted intervention remains necessary to reduce catastrophic outcomes.
