Rentenbank Reopens Farm Climate Audit Grant, Up to €1,000 Per Farm

Frankfurt – October 29, 2026 -- Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank has opened a new round of its "Zuschuss Klimabilanz" grant, covering 90 percent of net consulting costs for a farm climate balance, capped at €1,000 per holding. Primary agricultural producers can register interest through the bank's funding portal from October 30, 2026 (12:00) to November 27, 2026 (12:00). The grant covers the climate balance and an accompanying catalogue of reduction measures.

Rentenbank has approved more than 1,500 applications worth over €1.5 million since mid-2025

The program launched in mid-2025. Demand is rising: the Rentenbank Agrarbarometer from spring 2026 shows 20 percent of surveyed farms already produce a climate balance, and another 10 percent plan to.

Management board spokesperson Nikola Steinbock said emission-limiting measures must continue alongside climate adaptation. She cited this year's drought, which has dried soils in the southern half of Germany, below a line from Rhineland-Palatinate to southern Thuringia, to a depth of 1.80 meters. According to Steinbock, a climate balance shows farms where they can cut emissions and costs at the same time.

Random selection decides which farms may apply by January 29, 2027

After the interest period closes, the Rentenbank will select invited applicants at random. Selected farms have until January 29, 2027 (12:00) to submit a funding application. Work on the climate balance may start only after a funding commitment has been issued.

Rentenbank extends existing commitments to October 31, 2027

The bank has extended all commitments whose original approval period ended on November 15, 2026 to October 31, 2027. Granted funds remain available until that date. The Rentenbank will not send separate extension letters. It still recommends that farms finish their climate balance promptly and file payout requests early.
