Miami – September 15, 2026 -- Sawgrass LNG & Power has begun supplying liquefied natural gas to Walker's Cay in the northern Bahamas, replacing diesel as the fuel source for the island's power generation.
Sawgrass extends near decade-long Bahamas LNG footprint to iconic sportfishing island
The deal expands Sawgrass' presence across The Bahamas, where the company has supplied LNG to resorts, utilities and industrial customers for more than eight years. Sawgrass produces LNG at its Miami liquefaction facility and delivers it via ISO containers, a model that avoids the capital costs of fixed pipeline or terminal infrastructure. The company describes itself as the largest exporter of U.S. LNG via ISO container.
Walker's Cay redevelopment ties power transition to broader sustainability push
Walker's Cay, located near the protected waters of Walker's Cay National Park, is undergoing an extensive redevelopment led by philanthropist and sportsman Carl Allen. As part of the modernization, the island has switched its on-island power generation from diesel to LNG, a move aimed at cutting fuel costs, lowering emissions and improving long-term sustainability.
Bahamian customers report fuel savings of 20% to 50% versus diesel
Across its existing Bahamian portfolio, Sawgrass customers have achieved fuel savings ranging from 20% to 50% while significantly reducing emissions compared with diesel. Walker's Cay now joins that customer base, which spans resorts, utilities and industrial operations.
Daniel McLaughlin, President & Chief Commercial Officer of Sawgrass LNG & Power, said the project reflects the company's near decade-long effort to help resorts and island communities move away from diesel toward a fuel source offering lower operating costs and greater price stability.
