AUSTIN, Texas – November 04, 2026 -- Scale Computing says nearly 10,000 interactions with its TCO calculator show an average 40% lower total cost of ownership than VMware, as the edge computing vendor targets customers weighing renewals under VMware's new packaging and per-core licensing.
The same calculator data produced an average modeled return on investment of 119%. The Data Center Intelligence Group (DCIG) also named Scale Computing a Top 5 VMware Alternative for 2026-27.
Scale Computing frames VMware renewals as a distributed-site problem
The company argues that for organizations with many locations, a renewal affects staffing, maintenance, migration and site-level resilience, not only the licensing quote. Sites with minimal or no on-site IT staff face extra site visits when hardware fails, patches are missed or configurations drift.
Two-node clusters and 50,000-cluster orchestration anchor the pitch
SC//HyperCore Hypervisor delivers high availability on just two nodes, with no external witness or separate storage array. Scale Computing says the platform detects and resolves most cluster problems automatically and absorbs drive and node failures with minimal downtime. Rolling, fully tested upgrades are designed to remove after-hours maintenance windows.
SC//Fleet edge orchestration software manages 1 to 50,000 clusters from one console. Zero-touch provisioning cuts installation time by 90% or more, and the software includes built-in drift detection.
Vendor ties virtualization choice to 2027 AI and computer vision plans
SC//HyperCore runs legacy and modern applications side by side and supports AI inference and GPU-accelerated workloads at the edge. Craig Theriac, vice president of product management, said customers can address current virtualization needs and future edge workloads on one platform rather than picking a replacement hypervisor now and a separate AI-ready edge platform later. He said the company is helping customers "turn a VMware renewal deadline into a long-term strategy."
Migration is offered in three modes: self-guided, assisted, or fully managed by Scale Computing professional services.
Channel expansion targets partners facing customer renewals
Cooper Briscoe, Scale Computing's chief marketing officer, said acquisitions have broadened the portfolio into an end-to-end offering for distributed enterprises. The company is expanding its channel presence to help partners deepen existing customer relationships and win new business as renewals approach.
Scale Computing is also offering a $100 Amazon.com gift card to qualified individuals who complete a meeting and generate a quote.
