SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Dec. 7, 2024 – SES announced today that two additional O3b mPOWER satellites have arrived at Cape Canaveral, Florida, in preparation for their December launch aboard a SpaceX rocket. These satellites, the seventh and eighth in the constellation, will further enhance SES's second-generation medium earth orbit (MEO) system, delivering high-performance connectivity services to customers worldwide.

Bolstering O3b mPOWER for Enhanced Global Connectivity

The O3b mPOWER system represents a significant advancement in satellite-based communications, providing high-throughput, low-latency connectivity to meet the growing demands of various sectors, including government, maritime, aviation, and enterprise. The arrival of these two new satellites marks a crucial step in expanding the constellation's capabilities and coverage.

"Both satellites feature redesigned payload power modules and will join the first six O3b mPOWER satellites already in operation at medium earth orbit (MEO)," states the SES press release. "The two additional satellites will bolster the second-generation MEO system to continue delivering high-quality connectivity services required by customers across multiple market segments, at scale."

Delivering High-Quality Connectivity Services at Scale

Since its initial deployment in April 2024, O3b mPOWER has been steadily expanding its reach and service offerings. With its core infrastructure now operational on a global scale, SES is well-positioned to meet the evolving connectivity needs of its customers.

The O3b mPOWER system's unique architecture, combining the benefits of MEO with advanced satellite technology, enables it to deliver fiber-like performance with significantly lower latency compared to traditional geostationary satellites. This makes it ideal for applications that require high bandwidth and responsiveness, such as cloud computing, video streaming, and real-time data transfer.

Expanding the O3b mPOWER Ecosystem

The addition of these two new satellites to the O3b mPOWER constellation will further enhance its capacity and resilience, enabling SES to serve a wider range of customers and applications. The company continues to invest in the development and deployment of innovative satellite technologies to meet the growing demand for high-performance connectivity solutions.

Key Benefits of O3b mPOWER:

  • High Throughput: Delivers multi-gigabit speeds to meet the demands of bandwidth-intensive applications.
  • Low Latency: Provides significantly lower latency than traditional GEO satellites, enabling real-time applications and improved user experience.
  • Flexibility: Offers scalable and flexible solutions to adapt to evolving customer needs.
  • Reliability: Ensures high availability and service continuity through its robust MEO architecture.
  • Global Coverage: Provides seamless connectivity across a wide geographic area.
