Sharjah Launches AI Category for 13th Government Communication Award

Sharjah – September 09, 2026 -- Sharjah has opened submissions for the 13th edition of its Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA), introducing a dedicated category for the "Best Use of AI in Government and Institutional Communication" for the first time.

Global entrants have until September 22, 2026 to submit projects

Organizations and individuals worldwide can submit communication initiatives before the deadline. The award will distribute more than 35 prizes across categories covering governments, international organizations, the private sector, individual achievement, innovative communication approaches, and jury and partner awards.

2025 edition drew 2,600 submissions from 37 countries

The new AI focus follows a sharp rise in international participation. Last year's competition attracted over 2,600 entries from 37 countries, with more than 600 projects advancing to a second review round and 170 reaching the final evaluation stage. Past finalists have included Tuvalu's initiative to become the world's first digital nation in response to climate change, youth entrepreneurship programs in Nigeria, and an AI-based platform connecting experts across Africa and the United States.

Projects can earn up to 10% bonus points for effective AI use

Organizers will not judge AI adoption on technical merit alone. Entries will be assessed on the contribution AI makes to more effective communication and measurable outcomes. Beyond the dedicated AI category, projects in other categories can qualify for up to 10% additional scoring points if they demonstrate proven, effective AI deployment.

Judging criteria now prioritize documented, sustainable community impact

This year's award places greater weight on measurable results. Submissions must show concrete evidence of the change a communication project generated for its community, identify who benefited, and demonstrate whether the outcomes are sustainable over time.
