Sharjah Opens 13th Government Communication Award, Adds AI Category

Sharjah – September 09, 2026 -- The Sharjah Government has opened global applications for the 13th edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award, with a submission deadline of September 22, 2026, and a new focus on artificial intelligence in public messaging.

Award expands to more than 35 categories spanning public and private sectors

The program, run by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, covers entries from government bodies, international organizations and private companies, alongside individual achievement and smart communication competitions. Jury and partner awards round out the more than 35 categories on offer this cycle.

2025 edition drew 2,600 applications from 37 countries

International participation surged last year, with over 2,600 submissions filed from 37 countries. More than 600 entries cleared the initial screening round, and 170 advanced to final evaluation. Past entries have included Tuvalu's bid to become the world's first digital nation in response to climate change, youth entrepreneurship programs in Nigeria, and an AI platform connecting experts across Africa and the United States.

New AI category and 10% bonus scoring introduced for 13th edition

For the first time, the award includes a dedicated category for "Best Use of Artificial Intelligence in Public and Corporate Communication." Entries in other categories can now earn up to 10% in additional scoring if they demonstrate effective AI use. Judges will assess how AI is applied across planning, execution and outcome evaluation stages, and whether it improves content quality, audience understanding or communication efficiency.

New sub-category rewards campaigns promoting Emirate identity

The 13th edition also adds "Best Campaigns Promoting Emirate Identity" as a new sub-category. The Sharjah Government Media Bureau said it is inviting entries that demonstrate measurable outcomes, identifiable beneficiaries and sustainable impact rather than communication effectiveness alone.
