Skyven's Arcturus Heat Pump Hits COP of 8.0, Beats Roadmap Target

Antwerp – September 07, 2026 -- Skyven Technologies said its Arcturus industrial heat pump demonstration center in Texas has achieved a sustained coefficient of performance (COP) of 8.0, a gain of more than 20% over the 6.5 COP recorded at commissioning and above the target set in the company's original roadmap.

Arcturus surpasses its own commissioning benchmark through design and control upgrades

Skyven attributed the jump to improvements in system design, control algorithms and integration engineering at the Texas facility. The result confirms the ceiling performance of the Arcturus product line, which the company tailors to individual client sites, balancing COP against required temperature lift. Across its range, Arcturus delivers temperature increases of 38°C to 185°C, with corresponding COPs from 8.0 down to 2.0.

A COP of 8.0 cuts energy input for steam production roughly tenfold versus conventional boilers

At this efficiency level, Arcturus requires approximately one-tenth the energy per unit of steam compared with traditional boilers. For European manufacturers, that translates into lower steam costs, reduced compliance costs under the EU Emissions Trading System, and less exposure to energy price volatility.

"For more than a century, boilers have been the most cost-effective way to produce steam. Arcturus changes that," said Arun Gupta, founder and CEO of Skyven Technologies. "Arcturus's industry-leading efficiency gives manufacturers a concrete way to cut steam costs and strengthen their industrial competitiveness."

Nearly 90% of natural gas used for European industrial heat is imported, RTC says

Daniel Galis, Europe director at the Renewable Thermal Collaborative, said close to 90% of the natural gas European industry relies on for process heat is imported, leaving manufacturers exposed to price swings and supply disruptions. He said electrification is a key lever for reducing that vulnerability and building resilience across European industry, adding that innovation from companies like Skyven will help more manufacturers make the transition.

Skyven offers Arcturus through an Energy-as-a-Service model that allows customers to deploy the system without upfront capital investment and begin generating steam-cost savings immediately.
