Paramus, N.J. – September 12, 2026 -- Sony Electronics has unveiled the DWT-B40 bodypack transmitter and DWR-R40Q rack-mount receiver, the fourth generation of its DWX Digital Wireless Microphone Series, with availability set for March 2027.
New transmitter adds in-device 32-bit float backup recording
The DWT-B40 incorporates an in-transmitter recording function using Sony's proprietary algorithm, enabling distortion-free backup capture directly on the device in the event of a wireless signal interruption. Recording can be triggered via the REC button or remotely from the receiver through Cross Remote control, with timecode synchronization and microSD card data transfer. Simultaneous transmission and recording is not currently supported in North America.
Transmitter reaches 50 mW output for long-distance stability
The DWT-B40 supports a maximum transmission power of 50 mW depending on region, allowing stable long-range audio transmission without an external power source. It offers audio transmission modes ranging from low-latency, high-fidelity settings to configurations optimized for reliability in broadcast and sports production environments. Power options include lithium-ion batteries, sold separately, and USB, with +48V phantom power available for directly connected condenser microphones.
Receiver packs 4-channel diversity reception into 1U rack space
The DWR-R40Q supports 4-channel true diversity reception in a 1U form factor and adds 4-antenna diversity mode to strengthen transmission stability in RF-congested environments. It supports a Dante audio network with four output ports for flexible IP connectivity while retaining analog XLR connections for conventional workflows.
Four-channel setup and pairing simplified to a few button presses
Frequency configuration and pairing for four channels can now be completed through simple button operations, a shift from the specialized expertise traditionally required for wireless microphone setup. Sony positions the series for professional production as well as broader applications including studio operations, theatrical productions, faith-based services, corporate events, lectures and seminars.
Andy Munitz, senior product manager for Professional Audio at Sony Electronics, said the fourth-generation DWX Series makes advanced wireless technology more intuitive and accessible without compromising the reliability professional users expect, adding that the DWT-B40's built-in backup recording provides an extra layer of reassurance for productions where capturing every moment matters.
