Herndon, Va. – September 17, 2026 -- ST Engineering iDirect is powering satcom integrator Datacom with its Intuition ground system, enabling cloud-native satellite services across the Asia-Pacific region and targeting double-digit reductions in total cost of ownership for Datacom's customers.
Datacom adopts cloud-native architecture to escape traditional hardware cycles
The deployment supports Datacom's Satellite Modernization Blueprint, a scalable framework designed to move operators away from five- to ten-year hardware migration cycles toward software-defined, cloud-native ground infrastructure. Intuition will be provided to Datacom under a subscription model, backed by technical enablement, validation testing, and ongoing lifecycle support from ST Engineering iDirect.
Intuition enables multi-orbit operations and bring-your-own-hardware flexibility
The system's resource management tools -- including Global Bandwidth Management, the Mx-DMA MRC waveform, and automated resource orchestration -- are engineered to maximize spectrum throughput while eliminating proprietary hardware premiums. Intuition will initially be deployed across multiple gateways to support a large installed base of maritime terminals, with roaming capability between customers' existing networks and the new Intuition infrastructure.
Executives frame deployment as foundation for next-decade satellite services
"Intuition gives Datacom a cloud-native foundation that unlocks immediate efficiency gains, faster service activation, and the flexibility operators need as they move into multi-orbit architectures,
