Toronto – September 15, 2026 -- Starlight Investments has closed its Starlight UK BTR Fund II with £680 million in total capital commitments across the fund and related investment vehicles, financing the acquisition and completion of more than 6,000 build-to-rent homes across the United Kingdom.
Fund II Secures Backing From Global Institutional Investors Across Three Continents
The fund drew commitments from a diverse group of global institutional investors spanning Europe, Asia-Pacific and Canada, including both existing limited partners and several new backers. Earlier this year, Homes England's National Housing Bank made a significant commitment to the fund, aligning the strategy with national efforts to expand the UK's undersupplied rental housing stock.
Three Major Schemes in Manchester and Basildon Already Under Construction
Fund II is partially deployed, with three major rental housing schemes currently under construction — two in Manchester and one in Basildon.
"The successful close of Fund II reflects strong institutional investor confidence in Starlight's UK residential strategy and the opportunities we continue to see in this market," said Raj Mehta, President, Global Markets at Starlight Investments. "The committed capital positions us well to continue delivering housing in markets across the UK that have faced long-standing supply shortages."
Platform Expansion Targets Top-Four Ranking Among UK BTR Operators
Jonnie Milich, Head of UK Residential at Starlight Investments, said the firm's focus now shifts to execution and the next growth phase of its UK residential platform. Starlight has built an extensive project pipeline, assembled an on-the-ground team, and holds a growing portfolio of schemes across construction, leasing and operational phases.
The broader UK platform currently comprises 12 BTR projects ranging from development through active leasing and operations, targeting larger regional cities and key London commuter belt markets characterized by acute rental housing shortages. Starlight said the expanding portfolio will make it one of the four largest BTR operators in the UK by scale.
