SWFI Lists 2,960 Start-Ups in Future 100 Watchlist for I20 Summit

MIAMI – – November 03, 2026 -- The Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI) has published a watchlist of 2,960 private start-ups across 50 investment themes and 54 countries, and set a target of US$5 trillion in long-term institutional capital directed into the United States through its I20 Summit and later editions.

The "I20 Future 100 Watchlist" targets companies valued at US$100m or more. It is aimed at sovereign and institutional capital allocators ahead of the inaugural I20 Summit in Miami, scheduled for December 11-16, 2026.

SWFI will select 100 founders from the pool to speak at the Miami summit

The final cohort, branded the "Future 100," will present on the main stage and on sector-specific stages. The full watchlist will be printed in a brochure distributed to every summit participant.

The summit runs alongside the official G20 Leaders' Summit at Trump National Doral. SWFI states that the I20 Summit is an independent initiative, not affiliated with or endorsed by the G20 or the U.S. government.

SWFI screened the first 1,200 entries against eight criteria

The criteria for these entries are:

  • institutional backing
  • recent funding
  • currently operating
  • solvent
  • free of material legal action
  • clear of restricted lists
  • privately held with an estimated valuation of at least US$100 million
  • active in one of SWFI's 50 designated sectors

The sectors range from superintelligence and AI to biotech, water infrastructure and precious metals.

The remaining 1,760 companies come from published industry rankings

SWFI drew these entries from Forbes 30 Under 30 lists for North America, Europe and the Middle East for 2024-2026, Forbes Richest Self-Made Women, Forbes 40 Under 40 and Fortune Italia's 40 Under 40. These companies had to meet two additional criteria: independent ownership and operation, outside any larger group, and a maximum valuation of US$5 billion.

SWFI sets a US$5 trillion US capital target for summit participants

SWFI wants participants at this and subsequent I20 editions to direct US$5 trillion in long-term institutional capital into the United States. The watchlist is meant to link proven, high-scale companies with the sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and endowments able to finance their next growth stage.

SWFI Chairman Lakshmi Narayanan Ramanujam said the capital represented at the summit will follow the strategic roadmap the G20 sets, and described the event as a catalyst for a "fresh wave of inward investment."

SWFI President and CEO Michael Maduell said deal formats could range from a 30-year infrastructure investment partnership to a fundraise for a high-growth scale-up.

The watchlist can be searched online.
