Global – October 28, 2026 -- Telit Cinterion started its AI rollout in IoT product development with validation testing, then extended it to software development and customer support, according to Antonino Sgroi, the company's global head of R&D.
Validation came first to avoid downstream bottlenecks
Telit Cinterion used AI to speed up log analysis and root-cause detection before applying it elsewhere. Sgroi said accelerating development without strengthening validation only moves the bottleneck downstream.
Software and support followed once validation was ready
In software development, AI now generates repetitive code, speeds up reviews, guides debugging and drafts documentation, without lowering the quality bar, Sgroi said. In customer support, AI helps engineers interpret logs faster and surface recurring field issues. Those insights feed back into engineering.
Sgroi said accelerating coding first would have caused the rest of the pipeline to collapse.
Hardware AI tools fall short of industrial standards
Telit Cinterion is still searching for AI solutions for hardware. It sees potential in PCB layout, RF tuning and digital twin simulation that tests assumptions before a build is committed. Sgroi said the tools are not yet mature enough and the company will not lower its bar, but it will integrate them quickly once they are.
2026 hackathon gave engineers protected time to test AI
The hackathon idea came from engineers across different regions. Participants had protected time to experiment with no deadlines. Sgroi said engineers afterward shifted from asking why to use AI to asking where else it applies. A second hackathon is planned for 2027.
Multi-agent workflows and edge intelligence top the watch list
Telit Cinterion is monitoring multi-agent workflows, AI-assisted hardware and RF design, more adaptive testing pipelines and deeper edge intelligence for products that need local decision-making. In multi-agent setups, AI agents break work into smaller steps that run in parallel under human oversight.
Sgroi advised other teams to start small, make early wins visible, and build governance and internal champions early. He said AI amplifies engineers rather than replacing them.
Telit Cinterion is also exploring embedding AI in its own products and said it will share details when ready.
