Toronto – October 14, 2026 -- Thomson Reuters is rolling out the next generation of CoCounsel Legal to customers in more than 90 countries and territories through 2026. The upgrade adds a Multinational Profile that pulls legal content from more than 100 countries and territories into a single research workflow.
Multinational Profile keeps cross-border research inside one platform
Until now, lawyers researching a cross-border question had to leave CoCounsel Legal and reconcile information from several jurisdictions and sources. Thomson Reuters says the new profile removes that step. Teams can research legal requirements across countries, compare key differences, flag issues that may need local advice, and trace each finding to its underlying source.
The profile draws on Thomson Reuters legal content and vetted official legal and regulatory sources. Users keep full visibility into the sources behind each answer and can identify where deeper review or local counsel is needed.
David Wong, Chief Product Officer at Thomson Reuters, said research tools have historically stopped at national borders, forcing lawyers to piece together sources from multiple platforms.
Next-generation platform adds workspaces, tabular analysis and integrations
The upgraded platform is built on Westlaw and Practical Law content. Thomson Reuters lists four core capabilities:
- Research: AI-generated legal research reports that surface key authorities, relevant precedents and actionable insights.
- Workspaces: Matter-specific environments that combine firm documents, legal department materials, precedents and institutional knowledge, with context preserved across tasks and matters.
- Tabular Analysis: Bulk document review in a filterable table, with supporting references linked to source materials.
- Integrations: Connections to document management and productivity tools. Available integrations vary by country.
Not every capability is available in every geography, and availability will keep expanding, the company said.
Steve Savage, Partner and CTO & Head of Development at law firm Gosschalks, said his firm's time in the beta showed a clear gain in functionality and output quality.
UK launches first, with Australia, Brazil, Canada, Singapore and UAE due by end of October
The next generation of CoCounsel Legal is available now in the United Kingdom. General availability is expected by the end of October 2026 in countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
The Multinational Profile will reach customers in the U.S., Europe, the UK, Canada and Australia throughout October.
