Almaty – September 11, 2026 -- The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation has allocated 460 million tenge (approximately $1 million) to fund natural gas connections for private homes in Almaty, Kazakhstan, under an agreement signed with the city's Akimat (mayor's office).
Foundation funding targets private homes still burning solid fuel for heat
The initiative supports the transition of private residences from coal to natural gas heating, addressing a major source of seasonal air pollution in Almaty during the winter heating period.
Akimat to handle site assessments while contractors execute connection works
Under the signed agreement, the Almaty Akimat will inspect eligible private homes, advise residents on connection procedures, and guide them through the transition process. Qualified contractors will then carry out the required construction and installation work to link properties to the municipal gas network.
Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy said the city continues efforts to connect private households to the urban gas supply network, noting that requirements vary case by case and that support from socially responsible companies allows the initiative to expand.
Foundation cites prior Almaty infrastructure projects as track record
Ainur Karbozova, executive director of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, said the project aims to expand city infrastructure and improve living conditions by giving households not yet connected to gas access to a modern heating alternative.
The foundation has previously funded a renovation of Almaty's Botanical Garden, an upgrade of ventilation and air conditioning systems at the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the opening of an Asyl Miras autism center. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it also financed mobile PCR testing labs to support the local health system.
