Almaty – September 10, 2026 -- The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation has allocated 460 million tenge (approximately US$1 million) to fund the gasification of private residential homes in Almaty, partnering with the city's Akimat (Mayor's Office) on the project.
Foundation funding targets coal-to-gas conversion for private homes
Under a newly signed memorandum, the Almaty City Akimat will inspect private residences, consult with residents on connection procedures and coordinate the transition to natural gas heating. Qualified contractors will then carry out the construction and installation work required to connect each home to the gas network.

Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy said the city continues targeted work to connect private homes to the gas supply network, noting that requirements vary by residence and require support spanning consultation through technical connection. He added that backing from socially responsible businesses allows the initiative to expand its reach.
Solid fuel combustion in the private sector remains a major source of pollution in Almaty during the heating season, according to the announcement. Replacing coal heating with natural gas in private homes is positioned as a direct lever for improving the city's air quality.
Foundation CEO frames project within broader Almaty infrastructure commitment
Ainur Karbozova, CEO of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, said the organization aims to support urban infrastructure development and create more comfortable living conditions for Almaty residents, enabling households not yet connected to the gas system to shift to modern heating.
The gasification allocation follows other Foundation-backed projects in Almaty, including reconstruction of the Botanical Garden, modernization of ventilation and air conditioning systems at the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the opening of an Asyl Miras Autism Center. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation also installed mobile PCR testing laboratories to support the local healthcare system.
