Washington State Expands Free Trualta Training for Rural Caregivers

Olympia, Wash. – October 06, 2026 -- Trualta has expanded its contract with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to deliver no-cost caregiver training to hundreds of additional rural families over the next year, as part of the state's Rural Health Transformation initiative.

Washington targets rural dementia caregivers through expanded state portal

The expanded program routes services through wacaregivingjourney.com, the state's caregiver portal powered by Trualta, offering free online education, peer support groups, and practical caregiving tools. The initiative prioritizes dementia care alongside support for caregivers of older adults and people with disabilities, addressing gaps in areas where clinical and support services have declined.

Jonathan Davis, Founder of Trualta, said rural caregivers often manage complex care needs with fewer resources and longer travel distances to specialists. He said the state's investment gives families access to training, emotional support, and practical tools to keep care recipients safe at home.

Program bundles dementia modules with tools for spousal caregivers under strain

The offering includes no-cost dementia education modules, condition-specific skill-based learning, and peer-support opportunities. It also provides tools for managing family dynamics and care coordination, along with resources specifically for spousal caregivers facing high levels of strain, many of whom are aging themselves while managing care alone.

Federal subaward of $200,000 funds portion of state's broader health care authority grant

The project is supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) through a subaward of $200,000, part of a larger financial assistance award totaling $181,257,515.06 made to the Washington State Health Care Authority. Of that total award, 62 percent is funded by CMS/HHS, with $124,513.00 and 38 percent funded by other sources.

Trualta's platform now operates across 33 states with millions of annual engagement minutes

Trualta's platform has been adopted across 33 states and multiple health systems nationwide, delivering over 7 million minutes of caregiver learning engagement. The company frames unpaid family caregivers as an "invisible healthcare workforce" whose structured training can reduce avoidable hospitalizations and long-term care placements.
